Leeds jewellery retailer theft: Man attempting to interrupt home windows with a hammer is handled by the general public

The person was pinned to the bottom and brought into custody after attempting to interrupt into the home windows of Berries Jewelers on Albion Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was arrested and continues to be in custody.

Footage from the scene exhibits that one of many home windows was closely broken and a police cordon was put up across the store by night.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman stated: “Yesterday at 3.30 pm, police had been knowledgeable of a window breaking by a person with a hammer at Berries Jewelers in Albion Avenue, Leeds.

“The suspect was detained on the scene by members of the general public.

“Officers attended and arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of tried theft and possessing an offensive weapon. He stays in custody.

“A scene was stored for forensic examination and was eliminated by 7 pm.”
